Want another shot at this shirt? Request this shirt and if enough people sign up we'll bring it back.

November is Bladder Health Awareness Month and we want to do everything we can to support those who suffer from bladder conditions, specifically Interstitial Cystitis (IC/BPS).  Bladder symptoms can often be tough to talk about or publicly support because of their intimate nature. IC is also known as an "invisible illness" because there are usually no external signs of the condition. If you see someone with crutches or a wheelchair we can tell pretty quickly that something is wrong...but if someone has pelvic pain or struggles with frequent urination or any of the other hallmark signs of IC, it's almost impossible to tell from the outside. More than 12 million people have the symptoms of IC, and many have been struggling with issues for years--and without the attention or consideration that they deserve. Many have been ignored, brushed off, told "it's all in your head" or misdiagnosed.

These shirts are our very small way of saying we see you, we honor you, we offer solidarity, and you are not alone.

So why Sisu?
Sisu is a unique Finnish concept. It stands for the philosophy that what must be done will be done, regardless of what it takes. Sisu is a special strength and persistent determination and resolve to continue and overcome in the moment of adversity…an almost magical quality, a combination of stamina, perseverance, courage, and determination held in reserve for hard times. Sisu is what every person with IC or BPS has in spite of their symptoms.

If you have IC, wear your Sisu shirt proudly. Feel free to explain the meaning to whatever depth you feel comfortable with. If you don't exactly want to talk about your bladder to a random stranger, you don't have to. But you can also use it as a conversation starter to help spread awareness about IC. If you don't have IC, wear your shirt to support anyone who does. Let them know that you are there for them and that you support them.

Your purchase also supports efforts to raise awareness of the condition and improve treatment for patients across the country.  Half of proceeds go to the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA), the only non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those living with IC.  Nicole Cozean, founder of PelvicSanity and author of The Interstitial Cystitis Solution, was the first physical therapist to serve on the ICA Board of Directors.
